Membership Model
We have been raising and selling pasture-raised chickens for over 6 years now. With rising feed and other costs we needed to change how we are operating so we can continue to provide our high- quality pasture raised chickens. We are offering a membership program where you can pledge to purchase 1, 2, 3 or 4+ chickens per month.
Every month a member will receive their selected number of chickens (with your choice of either whole or cut-up) as well as the option to purchase other produce or protein that we have on offer that month. Your order can be picked up from the farm or we have monthly pick-up locations in Casino, Lismore, Kyogle and Yamba (and other locations with adequate member numbers).
How We Raise Them
At Gracemere Farmstead our meat chickens are raised outdoors in comfortable mobile shelters and shifted daily onto fresh, bio-diverse and chemical free pastures. This is good for the chickens and also beneficial to the pastures. They are fed certified organic feed purchased locally from SOFT at Mallanganee and raised using organic principles. By allowing our chickens to graze on new pasture daily, this provides them with access to natural nutrients such as insects, worms, seeds and different grasses.
On the other hand, factory farmed chickens are born into highly mechanised, unnatural environments, where they are only valued as units of production rather than living animals with specific needs. The unnatural stress these chickens are under negatively affects the nutritional value and flavour of the meat.
The Process
Day-old (non-vaccinated) chicks are picked up from the Gold Coast Airport, QLD
For 2-3 weeks chicks are kept in a brooder while they develop feathers.
Chickens are moved to mobile coops to protect them from predators and moved daily for 9-10 weeks.
Chickens are processed. You enjoy a locally organically produced pasture-raised delectably delicious chicken. Yum – healthy and tasty!
Our pasture-raised chickens are fed organic feed. The organic feed does not contain chemicals, toxins or harmful additives. The organic feed is more nutritious containing biochar for gut health and higher omega-3 levels.
